Bristol Jack in the Green

Where: Bristol starting at the Mshed on Princes Walk
When: 1st Saturday in May
Time: From 10.30 until late afternoon

Bristol Jack in the Green is a modern revival of the old May custom of parading a greenery-clad flower-decorated man around town to welcome the spring. Jack is 9 feet tall and is accompanied by various companions  including musicians and dancers. They roam the streets of the city before Jack “dies”, releasing the spirit of summer, at Horfield Common at around 4pm.

Helpful Hints

You may be fortunate enough to be given a lucky piece of Jack’s foliage at the end of the day.

In 2018 it will be on Saturday May 5th.
