Gorebridge is the setting for an annual Gala founded ninety years ago and similar to the events at Loanhead and Newtongrange (see separate articles). On Gala Day, the child King and Queen, and members of their court comprising about 50 children, lead a motorcade around the village accompanied by massed bands . On arrival at the playing fields, the Crowning Ceremony takes place followed by entertainments throughout the afternoon. A week-long programme of events and entertainments lead up to the Gala Day itself.
Helpful Hints
In 2025 it should be on Saturday June 21st.
In the event of poor weather the Crowning takes place in the Church.

A friend of a friend is playing in a rock band at the Gala, can anyone telll me what time they are due to start playing?
Hi Dennis,
You’re through to calendarcustoms and we don’t organise the Gala! The Gala website lists Denis Campbell as their contact and you can email him on djmenace1@btinternet.com so hopefully he’ll be able to help,
Best wishes,
Averil
Relly good and the rides ar epic 😝😝😝😝😝😝
We are thinking about starting a Gala in Liberton and are in the process of seeing what expenses are involved.
Could you recommend any Pipe Bands , and how much do they cost please.
Hi Gordon,
Here at calendarcustoms we’re not connected to the organisation of any of the events on the website so sadly I can’t help with prices for the bands and other expenses – however, if you follow the link to http://loanheadgaladay.org.uk/contact/ the organisers there should be able to give you lots of help as their event is very well established indeed and I’m sure they’ll be pleased to advise. Hope that helps!
