Hedley Barrel Race

Winning Team

Every Easter Monday, a gruelling race is held at the pretty village of Hedley on the Hill in rural Northumberland. Competitors in teams of three must carry an empty 9 gallon beer barrel over a one and a half mile course through fields and up a steep hill. The fininshing line is chalked on the road outside The Feathers and the winners appropriately receive a full 9 gallon keg of real ale! On site at the pub are also egg jarping competitions, a barbecue and an Easter Bonnet competition. The pub is well known for its good food.
