|Where:||Hedley on the Hill, Northumberland at The Feathers Inn|
Every Easter Monday, a gruelling race is held at the pretty village of Hedley on the Hill in rural Northumberland. Competitors in teams of three must carry an empty 9 gallon beer barrel over a one and a half mile course through fields and up a steep hill. The fininshing line is chalked on the road outside The Feathers and the winners appropriately receive a full 9 gallon keg of real ale! On site at the pub are also egg jarping competitions, a barbecue and an Easter Bonnet competition. The pub is well known for its good food.
Competitors must register on the day at the pub from 11 am and registration costs £15 per team for adults, £5 for children. Proceeds go to charity.
The race itself takes around ten minutes.
In 2017 Easter Monday is on April 17th.
