Marldon Apple Pie Fair

Where: Marldon, Devon at the Jubilee Meadow near the Church
When: 1st Saturday in September (formerly Last Saturday in July )
Time: From 11.30

Marldon hosts a typical English village fete, with sports, crafts, competitions and entertainments. The unique aspect of this event is the Apple Pie Princess with her traditionally donkey-powered  giant-apple-pie cart (which when we visited was pulled instead by local teenagers rather than a donkey). The origins of the event lie in the nineteenth century, when local trader George Hill used to provide a huge apple pie for the church fete, delivered by donkey-cart; the current fair is a long-standing revival, now itself nearly half a century old. The fair is officially opened at noon by the Apple Pie Princess, who cuts the apple pie to sell with clotted cream. Yum!

Helpful Hints

The event has moved date over time and was firmly fixed at the end of July for some years- however from 2022 it shifted too the first Saturday in September. In 2024 it should be on Saturday September 6th (to be confirmed).
