Parade lap

The streets of Ringwood in Hampshire are the setting for the annual Pedal Car Grand Prix, which attracts around forty pedal-powered competitors – the venue used to alternate with New Milton, each taking turns to host the event but now it’s fixed at Ringwood. The open class lasts a gruelling two hours and is a test of endurance, with a wide range of ages from teenagers to veterans taking part. Rules govern the vehicle specifications and team members take turns at powering their creations around the 1- kilometre course; prizes are awarded to winners, runners up and fastest ladies teams. It’s well organised, with clear rules on drivers stopping for a red flag and no overtaking on a yellow, while any problems around the course are resolved quickly. Money is raised for local charities and a great deal of fun is had by all though competition is fierce! Expect thrills and spills, breakdowns and collisions and an exciting afternoon out.

Helpful Hints

In 2024 it should have been on Sunday 7th July but was cancelled for financial reasons. It will hopefully return in 2025- details yet to be announced.

The vehicles are on display from 10 am at the Furlong Centre, prior to practice laps from around 2.30. The Carnival Queen is also crowned on the day, at 2pm in the Market Place when we went. As it’s quite a lengthy course, it’s easy to pick a good spot to watch from even though there’s a fair sized crowd of spectators.
