Hammer goes down

The Lane Setting is the annual lease by auction of grazing land and verges around the villages of Ratcliffe Culey and Witherley in Leicestershire, and it’s taken place ever since the 1786 Enclosure Act. The local Parish Council organise the event and it’s held at the village pub. As well as the auction, there is traditional singing to follow and the provision of a deservedly popular free buffet at the Gate Inn.
