Stratford Shakespeare’s Birthday Celebrations

Where: Stratford upon Avon, Warks from New Place
When: Saturday nearest 23rd April
Time: 11am

William Shakespeare’s birthday is celebrated every April in his home town of Stratford upon Avon. The Bard was born in 1564 and this event has been held for many years on the Saturday nearest his birthdate. Expect a fancy-dress parade of well known characters from his plays, flag waving, wreath laying at the church where he is buried (Holy Trinity Church), folk dancing and street entertainment, and of course lots of thespians.

Helpful Hints

Crowds can be huge – use the Park and Ride to get into town.

In 2018 it will be on Saturday April 21st with further celebrations on the Sunday. For the first time there will be carnival floats showing tableaux from some of the plays as part of the parade.
