|Where:||Stilton, Cambridgeshire at the Bell Inn|
|When:||May Day Bank Holiday Monday|
|Time:||From 10.30 - races at noon|
Cheeserolling at Stilton is a relatively recent tradition; it started in the mid-twentieth century and was thought up in the pub! It was originally held at Easter but is now fixed to May Day Bank Holiday Monday and it is a race with teams of 4 people rolling their wooden mock-cheese between the Bell Inn and the crossroads of Fen Street / Church Street. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the winners receive a real Stilton cheese as well as a trophy and beer. Expect fancy dress and a fun atmosphere – don’t expect the hazards of the Coopers Hill cheeserolling races held at the other end of the month in Gloucestershire. There are plenty of musicians and entertainers on the day, a May Queen, May Garland parade, and of course food & drink.
In 2017 it will be held on Monday May 1st.
