Christmas Carol singing is a feature of the season all over the country ;  in one area of Yorkshire they have their own unique local carols which are sung in the villages of Castleton, Oughtibridge, Bradfield, Ecclesfield and Worrall from mid November up until New Year.  The tradition has been around for at least 200 years and much of the singing takes place in the local pubs during the evenings.

Helpful Hints

Follow the website link below for the current venues and timings.

You can hear the singing following the Sword Dancing at Grenoside Old Harrow pub and Handsworth Cross Keys on Boxing Day at 12 noon and 1pm respectively. Participation is encouraged and lots of the crowd even know the harmony parts – though the words are largely familiar, the tunes are unique to the area. Listen to the video clip from Handsworth for an example!
