Where: | Formerly at Forfar Loch Visitor Centre & Arbroath Abbey |
When: | Formerly Tartan Week (1st week in April) |
Time: | Formerly 1-4pm daily |
Each April Arbroath hosted its Tartan Week celebrations . The Haggis Hurling competition was a highlight of the festivities (see note below) and was later replaced by Haggis Hunts. Tartan Week commemorated the signing of the Declaration of Arbroath on April 6th back in 1320, which was a document confirming Scotland’s status as an independent sovereign nation and on Tartan Day itself there was often a reenactment of this at Arbroath Abbey. You could expect plenty of plaid and traditional music in the festival as well as hearty Scots fare.
Helpful Hints
In 2015 the last Tartan Week ran from Saturday 4th to Sunday 12th April – this tradition has now lapsed and there are currently no plans for future events.
