Where: | Edinburgh Castle - on the East face |
When: | Daily except Sundays, Good Friday and Christmas Day |
Time: | 1pm precisely |
At one o’clock precisely every day except Sundays, a 20-pound howitzer is fired at Edinburgh Castle – you can set your watch by it. Originally it was used as an aid to shipping so that chonometers could be accurately regulated and the custom continues as a tourist attraction even though navigators now have accurate timepieces.
Helpful Hints
There’s a display about it next to the gun. Admission fees apply (see website link).
