Somerleyton Penny and Bun Day

This one is included on the site because it’s an ongoing tradition, but as attendance is by invitation only details here will be kept brief. Children from the local Primary School perform a variety of songs at Somerleyton Hall for the owners, and in return receive a penny and a bun as their reward (and with inflation, the penny has now grown into a 50p piece!). The custom is over 150 years old and is held on Valentine’s Day 14th February or the nearest schoolday to that date and is private so don’t turn up as you won’t be able to get in!
