Eggs are rolled down the slopes at Avenham Park every Easter Monday – in the past these were traditional decorated boiled eggs but now are often of the chocolate variety! Plenty of venues all around the country host egg rolling events but the one at Preston is one of the biggest and best known of all. As well as the egg-rolling , the event hosts an Easter Bonnet competition, Lancashire food & drink and plenty of entertainments for a full day out.
Helpful Hints
Expect large crowds especially if it’s sunny (there are reports of up to 40,000 attendees). We went early in the day which, combined with poor weather, kept the crowds small.
Other egg rolling events are widespread but this one has history!
In 2025 it should take place on Monday April 21st.

Thanks for the message! I’ve removed the broken link from calendarcustoms and added a different one with the history of the egg rolling, and added the Facebook page for the venue. I’ve had a quick search online and haven’t found any sign of virtual egg rolling in 2021 – I think the best place to keep checking will be the Facebook link at https://www.facebook.com/AvenhamandMiller/ though I’d have thought they would have some reference to it on the page already if it was going ahead. Hope something turns up!
