The Spring or Vernal Equinox is celebrated at numerous locations throughout the British Isles but one of the most famous is the event held by the Druid Order at Tower Hill in London. The Equinox is the point at which night and day are of equal length. Expect about 30 Druids to process along Byward Street to Tower Hill Terrace in silence. Participants dressed in white robes and head-dresses carry banners, invoke the elements and perform blessings before scattering seeds to encourage a fruitful year ahead.
Helpful Hints
The exact date of the equinox varies a little with the calendar, falling on 20th or 21st of March. The ceremony lasts around 40 minutes. In 2025 it should be on Tuesday 20th March (to be confirmed).
When I visited in 2018, the ceremony took place just West of the terrace on the paved area opposite the London Bounds pub, rather than on the cobbled area in front of the Terrace which leads to the Tower entrance.

Hello. How long do your ceremonies last? I’d like to visit today at Tower Hill, but the earliest I can get there would be 3pm.

You’re through to calendarcustoms, rather than the organisers-we don’t have any connection to the running of the events on the site. Sadly I have no first-hand knowledge as I haven’t yet attended this myself, but I’d be surprised if the ceremonies last longer than an hour to an hour and a half which would mean you’d only arrive after it had all finished.Sorry I can’t give a more definite answer!If you click through from the calendarcustms page to the Druid Order’s own website (scroll down the page under Helpful Hints) they have a contacts email link but it says not to expect an immediate answer – might be worth a try (though they might be a bit busy getting ready!)

Just went to it this year, it lasts around 40 mins, starts at 12, but get there at 11.30. The get ready by the side of the barking all hallows church by the cafe process out along side of board street and back into speakers corner on top of KFC!
