The National Eisteddfod is held every year to celebrate Welsh arts and culture, and moves location from year-to-year, alternating between venues in the North and South of the principality. It takes place during the first week of August and has origins dating back to a twelfth century gathering held by Lord Rhys which incorporated a contest for his bards. Expect music,dance, theatre, choirs, visual and performing arts and of course Welsh language – you don’t need to speak Welsh to enjoy the festival but learning is encouraged and there are opportunities throughout the week. There are also numerous craft and trade stalls with a huge variety of commodities for sale.

In 2025 the National Eisteddfod will be held from Saturday 2nd to Saturday 9th August at Wrexham/Wrecsam.
