| Where: | Welcombe, Devon at St Nectan's Church and Well |
| When: | Sunday near 17th June |
| Time: | 6 pm (formerly 9.30 am Morning Service) |

St Nectan was a Celtic saint who lived as a hermit, sailing to Devon to start a holy life; he was decapitated by cattle thieves when he remonstrated with them about their actions. Despite this, Nectan carried his head back home; wherever a drop of blood fell, a foxglove blossomed. At Welcombe in Devon the church is dedicated to the saint, and on the Sunday nearest his feast day of 17th June there is a special service in which a procession forms, bearing the precious blooms, to the nearby holy well; the foxgloves are used to decorate the well and the church in his memory.
Helpful Hints
IN 2026 the service should be on Sunday June 14th at 6pm, and this year is a bigger patronal festival than previously, with a choir and supper.
It’s a small and close community and all are made very welcome (literally, and pun intended!).
