| Where: | Starting at the Old Pagoda site at Newport Place off Newport Street in Chinatown then moving to nearby Underground stations |
| When: | A Sunday in early January |
| Time: | 2.45 for 3pm start |

With no other purpose than fun and silliness, this event has nevertheless grown into an established annual tradition. Inspired by the New York No Pants Subway Ride which began in the early years of the twenty-first century, Londoners take to the train minus their lower garments in a nonchalant fashion, as if they’re just going about their normal business. Held on a Sunday in early January, it can be a little chilly on the nether regions but as the trews are only removed once on board a train and the Underground is a warm place, this isn’t too much of a problem. Other passengers are often bemused by the crowd of bare-legged funsters, but that’s all part of the experience. The entire group assemble at the site of the old pagoda before dividing into sub-groups and making their way to nearby Underground stations (the exact routes are announced to the crowd on the day), gathering on the platform and entering carriages; at this point trousers are removed (perhaps to a chorus of “Trousers off, pants on!”) and the event really gets going.
Helpful Hints
In 2026 it was on Sunday January 11th- 2027 date is yet to be announced. It starts at the Old Pagoda in Chinatown at 2.45 pm. Trousers are out- but you should still don underwear and footwear (in fact it’s encouraged!). It can be tricky to keep in a group even of you meet at the appointed time, so getting to the starting point is recommended. There’s no charge for the event other than the fare for your train ride.
There are lots of photographers on the day, both amateur and professional, so if you’re shy of your knobbly knees or festive under-crackers being seen by a wider public, you have been warned!
