| When: | Second Saturday in May |
| Time: | 1pm |

A new event in 2025, the Tartan Parade is an annual celebration of Scottish tradition and culture which features musicians, dancers, producers of the fabric and products made from it, and clans in their own examples of the textiles. Literally thousands of enthusiastic participants strut their stuff down the Royal Mile from the city Chambers, winding down along Cockburn Street into Princes Street Gardens. Naturally you can expect a plethora of pipers and highland dancers in the procession, and when we went there were also Chinese Dragons and Lions, a few dinosaurs, heralds in their fancy tabards, dignitaries, William Wallace and his entourage, a unicorn and even a sprightly haggis. The inclusive parade features performers from around the British Isles and the World as well as from its native land, and there’s a huge variety of tartan fabric on display, some of it even worn by dogs!
Helpful Hints
In 2026 it was on Saturday May 9th- 2027 date is yet to the announced but likely to be Saturday 8th.
The full parade takes just over an hour to pass any set point, and there’s a good view if you can get into position on the bend where the parade route turns from the Royal Mile down into Cockburn Street; get there early as the crowds are large. Some of the participants perform nearby before it all begins.
