Clogfest was the annual National Gathering for the Step Clog dancing community – the only event of its kind. It was held every July at Skipton; this type of dancing developed in the Northern mills and factories with regional variations from county to county. Running since 2002, the event attracted over twenty groups of dancers who performed at intervals over the weekend; you could also expect other musicians and a Saturday night ceilidh. Large crowds gathered, particularly for the Showcase at the Canal Basin on the Saturday afternoon so visitors needed to go early for a good view. Clogmakers displayed their wares for sale.
Helpful Hints
In 2016 it was held on Saturday July 9th & Sunday July 10th and it was the last Clogfest – rising costs meant that it won’t be carrying on.
Normal admission prices applied for admittance to the Castle and the site was open for viewing as usual with the dancers at locations around the grounds – click here for their website : http://www.skiptoncastle.co.uk/
