Where: | Formerly Chideock, Dorset at the George Inn on Main Street |
When: | Formerly Last Saturday in June |
Time: | Formerly Noon until 11pm |
The old tradition of nettle eating in Dorset was briefly alive and well at Chideock. Rules were straightforward – the person who ate the most nettles within an hour won. All nettles were supplied by the management and eating took place in front of the crowd (so no opportunities for cheating). Looked like a great day out!
Helpful Hints
In 2013 it was briefly replaced by a Garlic Eating Competition, as Nettle Eating was revived elsewhere in the county (see separate post on Nettle Eating Championship).
Entry cost £5 per person and the winner received a trophy and £100. Alternative foods to nettles were available onsite (including pizza) as well as camping and an after-show party. Entertainments were provided all day including live music.
