The Harvest Home is a celebration of the gathering in of the produce in the harvest, and the event at East Brent in Somerset is the longest running event of its kind dating back to the mid nineteenth century, thus the village is known as “The Home of Harvest Home”. A whole day is filled with food, music and entertainments for all ages and one of the highlights is the parade of puddings, along with the huge 6-foot harvest loaf on its special stretcher and a giant Cheddar cheese. The desserts are, unusually for August, Christmas Puddings and they are carried aloft for consumption back at the marquee. The procession makes its way from the Village Hall to the festival marquee led appropriately enough by a tractor, and the Weston Sea Cadets and their band.
Helpful Hints
In 2026 the event should be on Saturday August 8th- up to 2025 it’s been on August Bank Holiday Saturday but the move to earlier in the month seems to be a permanent one.
The whole event lasts from 11.30 am to 9.30 pm and there’s an after party at the Brent Knoll Inn. It’s always a sell out and tickets in 2025 were £28, available in advance from the Farm Shop and the Brent Knoll Inn (details on the Facebook link below).
The parade sets off when the main course has been eaten in the marquee and time can thus be a little flexible- when we visited it was around 1.30. We knew it always goes past the Brent Knoll Inn so we settled in there with drinks until we heard the band strike up.
