Irish culture and traditions are enthusiastically celebrated in London each year at the popular St Patricks Day Parade and Festival, held on the Sunday nearest to the Patron Saints feast day in March. Expect dancers, musicians, marching bands, lots of green clothes and hair, comedy nuns and leprechauns and all things Irish! The parade begins in Piccadilly and weaves its way over a mile-and-a-half route through Trafalgar Square to Whitehall. Later in the day there are performances from Irish comedians and bands (see link to event website for full details) and all afternoon there is an Irish food market selling a wide variety of produce from the Emerald Isle – we can recommend the Irish Stew.
Helpful Hints
In 2025 it should be on Sunday March 16th.
When we went in 2016 the parade reached Trafalgar Square just before 1pm.
Plenty of other places around the country also celebrate St Patrick’s Day with parades and entertainments- notably Leicester.
