Malvern Autumn Show: Giant Vegetables Championship

Where: Malvern, Worcestershire at the Three Counties Showground
When: Weekend in late September
Time: 9 am to 6 pm daily

The extensive Autumn Show at Malvern is a massive celebration of the fruits of the earth and marks the harvest of flowers, vegetables and fruit of the season. All the typical elements of a country show and horticultural extravaganza can be expected such as trade stands, demonstrations and talks, cookery workshops, displays such as carriage driving and of pets and heavy horses, rural crafts, local choirs and musicians and much more, and the event which makes this unique is the UK National Giant Vegetables Championship. In a contest in which size matters more than anything else, competitors heave their enormous produce into the designated marquee to show that big is better. Naturally produce will vary from one year to the next but you can expect to see perhaps chunky celery, large leeks, lengthy legumes, colossal cabbages, massive marrows, substantial squash and additionally a few enormous fruits and flowers. There are classes for longest and heaviest, and vast veg of all shapes and sizes, and World Records are frequently broken at the event, which is sponsored by CANNA, the nutrient specialists.
