Where: | Market Harborough, Leicestershire at St Mary in Arden Church in Great Bowden Road. |
When: | Easter Saturday |
Time: | 5pm |
Each Easter Saturday, the local St Dionysius Church choir gather at the ruins of the ancient church of St Mary in Arden at Market Harborough, to remember former churchwarden William Hubbard and to carry out his last wishes by singing “Jesus Christ is Risen Today” at his graveside . He died in 1786 and the special service has been happening annually ever since.
Helpful Hints
In 2025 Easter Saturday will be on Saturday 19th April.
It’s now at 5pm (formerly it was held at 6 but in recent years this has been brought forward to avoid singing at dusk, as when Easter is early it can precede the clock change to Summer Time). The service lasts about 15 minutes and all are welcome to attend.

Hi Averil
This actually starts at 5 and lasts around 15 mins not 6. Meant to mention this earlier I found out last year unfortunately when they didn’t turn up st 6…I was passing through so it wasn’t a big issue…
Thanks Ross – have updated accordingly 🙂
