Ladies day is the highlight of the year for the Neston Female Society, which was founded in 1814 and is the only surviving female society of this type in the country. Each June they march under their banner bearing the motto “Bear Ye One Another’s Burdens” (taken from St. Paul’s letter to the Galatians) accompanied by children and local dignitaries, all very smartly attired and bedecked with flowers. The procession makes its way along the High Street to St Mary’s & St Helen’s Church where there is a short service at 3pm; after this the walk continues to the Civic Hall where tea is served and the members have their AGM.

Thanks Roger- good to have that date confirmed!

This event should be scrapped. The Neston sheep would turn out for anything.
Even the mayoress couldn’t be bothered to try to dress smartly.

How do you know John ? Were you there too ?
I agree with John Bould. Shame you removed his comment.
I haven’t removed his comment- I just approved it? All comments on this page have to be approved first to reduce spam, so there will have been a delay after he posted it until I approved it just a few minutes ago.
Thought it had been removed, sorry!
Neston organisers need to look at other villages in the country, and see how much better organised a lot of these events are.
I know it’s traditional, but this Ladies Day is just being maintained for the sake of it.
It’s not Ladies day… it is actually called “Ladies Day Walk”. Of course it’s being maintained for the sake of it, it’s one of, if not, the oldest in the country. 210 years.
If they advertised that they were going to change a light bulb on the High Street, would loads flock to see that? I’m sure they would.
I attended the event this year, and saw swarms of people standing around. They didn’t know the significance of the event, or what it was about, but they decided to follow the ‘sheep’as Mr Bould so rightly stated and stand there anyway.
Any why do people have to bring their dogs to something like this?
You can see why so many jump on the latest protest bandwagon and such like….
Hello- it seems that a number of people are unhappy with Ladies Day 2023- as we have no connection at calendarcustoms with the organisation of the event, I’d urge you to contact the local council who should be able to put you in touch with the organisers. If enough people get in touch with suggestions for how it could be improved, hopefully with some positive ideas, there should be time for next year to be changed for the better. I doubt whether the organisation team will be users of the calendarcustoms website so you may need to go to them direct. It would be a shame if it dwindles away- I wasn’t there this year and it was quite different when I went a few years ago so best of luck getting it back on track,
Best wishes,
Averil
