When: | Saturday in early May |
Time: | Parade 11 am. arena entertainments 10.30 am - 7 pm |
Spalding is the centre of UK bulb growing and each spring celebrates this by hosting the annual Flower Parade of tulip-covered floats interspersed with marching bands, entertainers and jugglers. The parade route winds its way all through town led by the Flower Queen and her attendants. After a long gap of 10 years, the festival is being revived in 2023 so the new event may be different to the old one- check the links for up-to-date info. The festival was an annual fixture for well over 50 years up to 2013, and will be enthusiastically celebrated on its return.
Helpful Hints
In 2024 it was on Saturday 11th May. There won’t be a Parade in 2025 due to funding and venue issues- future date and details are yet to be announced.
2023 it was originally scheduled to be on Saturday 6th May but was moved a week to Saturday 13th May to avoid a clash with the coronation. It’s a colourful family friendly event and all are welcome.

I have elderly friends driving up from London for the flower parade on 5th May. Could you please advise me as to whether car parking will be available? Also, are there any hotels in the town centre, please?
Kind regards
Hi Sue! I’m not a local to Spalding so can’t claim any insider knowledge, but if you visit http://www.visitspalding.co.uk/ there’s a guide to the town online. If you click on it, the pages enlarge and there’s a large scale map with all the parking etc marked (it can be further enlarged if you zoom in on it)as well as a link down the left hand side for accomodation, some of which is in the centre and has parking on site. There should be ample parking available as they’ll be expecting an influx of visitors for the event. Hope your friends enjoy it and find all they need on the Spalding website!
Kind Regards,
Averil
Hi, yes, plenty of car parking including an all day FREE, just outside of town. We have a selection of hotels. All details at http://www.spaldingflowerparade.org.uk
Welcome to Spalding
Does the parade go through West Elloe?
Thank you
Hi Kim!
The parade turns south off the A151 before it gets to West Elloe – if you follow the event website link on the Calendar Customs article and select “Route” on the dropdown menu under “About the Parade”, you’ll get a map of the whole route. Hope that helps!
Kind Regards,
Averil
What a shame it all ended . For my wife and I, the annual coach trip from london, was the first outing of the spring.
Fond memories and the hope of a revival.
Yes it’s pity – you never know it might get going again one day. Lots of people will miss it!
Great news – after ten years, the parade is back! Saturday 6th May 2023
Brilliant- thanks for letting me know! I’ll add the new Facebook and website links to the site straightaway 🙂
hi, I used to come and watch the parade back in the 1970’s, just one thing? I contacted our local FENLAND CITIZEN, news paper (Archeant Group) of News papers, and it appears advertising of this Parade will be covered by local spalding news papers?
so mutch for International Reputation for this Flower Parade, let alone recognition across East Anglia.
