Mothering Sunday/ Mothers Day

Where: Countrywide
When: The fourth Sunday in Lent (usually falls in March)
Time: All day

Mothering Sunday is the Fourth Sunday in Lent when traditionally people return home to visit their Mothers and often take a gift, and attend their “Mother church” for the service. In the UK this has been partially fused with an American celebration called Mothers Day which is held later in the year – here the timing of Mothering Sunday has been kept but the name and card giving of the American custom have become the norm. It’s popular to take Mothers out for lunch or afternoon tea on this day and special Mothering Sunday services are held at churches all over the country, sometimes with posies of flowers being given out to the ladies of the congregation.
