In September and October each year, a competition is held in Blackpool to determine the World Fireworks Champion. Three nations take part, each performing a display on Fridays, and votes are taken before the announcement of the winner with a British fireworks display in the final week. The event also coincides with the illuminations (see separate article) and the fireworks can be seen all along the seafront.
