Ash Wednesday

Where: Countrywide
When: 1st day of Lent (early February to early March)
Time: All day

Ash Wednesday is the first day of the penitential season of Lent. Lent is the period preceding Easter and because Easter is a moveable feast, Lent also varies in date; Ash Wednesday falls early-February to early-March. After the pancake eating and vigorous sports of Shrove Tuesday (the day before) Ash Wednesday was traditionally a time for repentance and in the Catholic and many Anglican churches today, penitents’ foreheads are still marked with an ash cross.
