Siddington Redesmere Fete

Where: Siddington, Cheshire starting at Village Hall & processing to Redesmere Lake, & Village Hall
When: Last Saturday in July
Time: 1.30 pm

While summer fairs are a feature of many a village around the country, few have as beautiful a setting as the Redesmere Fete at Siddington, which includes a unique ceremony at the Lake. The Water Lily Queen leads a procession from the Village Hall, then she is is rowed across the lake to be crowned on the shore by the King of Redesmere, in a custom which is almost 100 years old. The participants are richly costumed and the rowing boat takes the form of a swan, so you can literally watch the Queen swanning around on the water! The coronation arena is next to the Mere on the north side of the water, and the Queen is rowed across for her coronation from the southern shore, after which the procession reforms to make its way back up to the Village Hall. A traditional fete follows with lots of music, entertainments and competitions, plenty of home-made refreshments, and fun for all ages.

Free parking is well signposted in fields next to the Village Hall, and there are also a few spaces down by the lake on Redesmere Lane. Admission was £2 in 2021 which included a programme.
