St Boswells Fair was historically one of the largest livestock trading fairs in Scotland where deals were struck on many horses, cattle and sheep – nowadays it’s mainly a horse fair where many Gypsy and traveller families pitch up on the picturesque village green for a few days. Other stalls are dotted around the site, selling a variety of goods such as tack, pots & pans, children’s clothes and more and there are also palmists and fortune tellers if you fancy a peep into the future . With a long history dating back several hundreds of years, the fair is always held near St Boisil’s Feast Day which falls upon 18th July, and it’s an important event in the local calendar. There’s often a big drive of horses and carts on the Saturday of the fair weekend.

Helpful Hints

In 2025 the fair ran from Wednesday 16th to Monday 21st July with the Drive on Saturday 19th- the Drive organisers are now stepping down so though the fair will definitely continue and should be from Wednesday 15th to Monday 20th in 2026, details for the 2026 Drive aren’t yet certain.
