Thriplow Daffodil Weekend

Where: Thriplow, Cambridgeshire- all around the village
When: Weekend mid-month
Time: 10am-5pm both days

Thriplow in Cambridgeshire is the setting for an annual celebration of the coming of spring, which is a deservedly very popular event that has been a fixture for well over half a century. It’s a charity fundraiser for local good causes and is run entirely by volunteers, incorporating many seasonal and countryside attractions and stalls as well as the swathes of numerous different types of daffodil growing around the pretty village. When we visited, there were displays by local Morris and Molly dancers, early maypole dancing by the local children, choirs and lots of folk, pop and rock bands. The church bellringers were active in the morning, and there were tractor and horse-drawn dray rides, a miniature steam railway and circus tricks; the Smithy on the green was in full working order, next to tree climbing and willow hurdle making. Other attractions included vintage cars and tractors, a living history encampment. a dog show, rescue animals and a wide variety of food and drink. The village is spacious and the activities well spread out, so that though there are many visitors, it doesn’t get overcrowded. Both cut daffodils and growing plants are available to take home.

Helpful Hints

In 2025 it should be on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd March.

Thriplow is pronounced trip-low with a silent “h”.

Tickets must be bought in advance for both entry (£10 in 2024) and parking (just £1 per vehicle) and are available through the website link below from around mid-January. It’s an exceedingly friendly and well-organised event.

The carparks are on meadowland, and the entrance & exit have protective coverings to minimise ruts. On entry visitors receive a map for the event with approximate walking times between the key sites. Some of the grassed areas may be muddy, especially if there has been recent heavy rainfall.
